Allan Sarago-Ah Kee takes part in US delegation

In April 2024, AFNAD member Allan Sarago-Ah Kee was part of a delegation of emerging Indo-Pacific leaders to the United States, for a week long program of policy discussions on the role of the Australia-US alliance in our region. The delegation, organised by the Perth USAsia Centre, included leaders from across India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, and Australia. Upon his return, Allan shared some of his reflections with us:
“During my recent diplomatic mission to the United States, I had the privilege of participating in a remarkable platform where regional stakeholders, including myself, immersed ourselves in the complex dynamics shaping the Indo-Pacific. Interacting with influential figures like Congressman Mike Gallagher and Australian Ambassador Kevin Rudd, alongside prominent journalists, think tank experts, and various US Government officials, we gained profound insights into crucial issues.
These discussions shed light on the evolving relationship between Australia and the U.S., emphasising the strategic importance of collaborative engagement in addressing regional challenges. Furthermore, the diverse perspectives shared during the expedition underscored the significance of multilateral dialogue and cooperation in fostering stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. Personally, I have always had a personal interest in the United States and since I’ve left high school it’s been both a personal and professional interest due to my skill set, area of study and goals for the future. In a lot of ways, I want to show the children in regional Australia specifically (as that’s where I’m from) that irrespective of your background, beliefs and socio-economic status that no goal is out of reach.”
